The Emerging Artist Award
To encourage artists at an earlier stage in their careers, the Foundation also funds an Emerging Artists program. Since its inception, this program has provided support to more than 674 emerging artists across New England. The Foundation seeks to identify individuals to whom it can “make a difference” through the combination of financial support, recognition, and endorsement.
The Foundation supports well-defined endeavors such as finishing a commissioned score, preparing works for an exhibition, traveling for arts research, or completing a piece of writing.
Selection Process
Nominations are solicited in January from recognized professionals in the cultural community and St. Botolph Club Members, as well as from former Emerging Artists recipients in the fields of music, literature, and the visual arts. A letter of recommendation by the nominator is required on behalf of the candidate, who then receives the application to provide a writing sample, visual images, or performance recordings, along with a letter of intent and CV. These materials are reviewed by jurors comprised of SBCF Board members, SBC members & artist from around New England. From about one-hundred and fifty (150) candidates, approximately 15-20 are selected annually for individual awards of $3,500. These awards are announced in June.
