The Emerging Artist Award
The Club’s Emerging Artist awards are presented each year to artists in the early stage of their careers in the fields of music, literature and visual arts. Recipients are individuals of any age who live and work in New England; have completed their undergraduate education; and have yet to achieve significant public or professional recognition. The grants may be used for travel; research; supplies; time off to complete a project or a commission; and/or participation in writing conferences or workshops.
Nominations are solicited from recognized professionals in the New England cultural community, including from Club members and former Emerging Artist award recipients. Nominee materials may include writing samples, visual images or performance recordings, together with a letter of intent. These materials are reviewed by jurors comprised of SBC members and artists, charged with giving deep consideration to all award applicants. Between 75 – 100 nominations are received each year. Ultimately, 15-20 individuals are awarded grants of $3,500. These grants are supported by the generous contributions of Club members to the Foundation’s Cultural Fund.
